After Tim Burton signs on to direct a script by Problem Child writers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, studios get into a bidding war for now hot commodity Burton's next project. Disney through Touchstone Pictures gives Burton the money for a project that many executives said wouldn't work, and they were wrong; at least on critical reception. Maybe this was a write off for Disney to get Burton in the room to direct more of their future projects? Tim Burton's first bounce, but a film that has been only more well-regarded with time.
