John Donald "J.D." Amato (@JDAmato on Twitter) loves movies. He is known for his work directing on "The Chris Gethard Show," "Cop Show," and "My Brother, My Brother and Me."
Biography[]
He has appeared on the Digital Filmmaking, War of the Worlds, Starship Troopers, Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk, and My Neighbor Totoro episodes of Blank Check, as well as the beginning and end of the Speed Racer episode. He also appeared on the Blank Check Special Features episode Corpse Bride. He introduced to the podcast his relevant hypothesis that all films are about their filmmakers.
Griffin and David have an ASMR-like fascination with J.D. talking about cinematography techniques, a topic which Amato is well-versed in.
He is a big fan of Toys (1992).
Talking the Walk[]
Some of J.D.'s appearances are part of an annual feature called Talking the Walk. These episodes often involve waxing poetic/going extremely deep about technical details and visual effects. For the 2020 installment, he recorded a secret companion podcast wherein he interviewed Kevin Baillie, the visual effects supervisor for The Walk.
