Cameron Crowe has made some of the most audience-beloved and rewatchable comedy-dramas in recent history. He loves his actors and they tend to love him right back. More importantly the actors in his movies have delivered some extraordinary star-making and award-winning performances, and that doesn't seem to be a coincidence.
It's debatable how much of a blank check director Cameron Crowe really is. Certainly he is regarded as less of an auteur-type of director than most others considered for the Blank Check miniseries treatment. But those two questions themselves become the dual foci of this miniseries: Is Crowe an auteur type of director, and in what sense? Did Cameron Crowe ever get a blank check, and if so, what did he do with it? Which Crowe project is one of David's all-time favorite movies?
Griffin and David track the highs and lows and in-betweens of Crowe's career, ranging from how he got his start as an undercover reporter, the story of his big break in the movie business with James L. Brooks, how he got in with big movie stars, and how his script-writing talent has ossified over the years. Plus #TheTwoFriends offer a LOT of speculation on the backstories of the two characters in "Denim Invasion."
This miniseries was preceded by The Podchowski Casters miniseries, on the films of the Wachowskis. It was followed by by the Podinator: Judgment Cast miniseries, on the films of James Cameron.
